Abstract

BACKGROUND: Trauma causes responses in the body under title of stress response , and considering that trauma is regarded as a very serious extraordinary stress, soon after trauma defensive reactions in the body become active and create changes in the body called " systemic response to injury " , including theseresponses increase blood glucose . Pathophysiology of most of these changes is the increase of level of stress hormones such as catecholamines , growth hormone , cortisol and glucagon .METHODS AND MATERIALSConsidering that some of the variants , are descriptive and some of the connections between then are analytical , therefore this descriptive تanalytical study is of cross ت section type . The population under study includes 270 cases who refferred to Alzahra hospital emergency with complaint of trauma in July , August and september , 2003 and because of trauma they had indication to be admission .At first , necessary coordination has been made with manager of hospital emergency , and then the form of collecting information , consisting age , sex , date of trauma , type of trauma , vital signs, blood glucose , and incase blood glucose is over 140 mg the next 24 hours blood glucose is chequed. RESULTS 'The age limit of people under survey is from 1.5 to 84 years , and most of trauma is in the age limit of 20 to 40 years . Trauma is greater in male than female . A great number of injuried patients were afflicted to head and neck trauma , approximatelly 45 out of the whole injuried patients , the most changes in blood glucose was upon admission (Bsi) and the average of Bsiand Bs2 in head and neck trauma was respectivelly (238 ▒ 104) mg/ anddl(133 ▒ 29) nig/llThe relation between GCS , Bsi and Bs2 shows that with decrease of GCS , the changes of further blood glucose is created and it is increased . Between GCS and Bsi , there is inverse liner relation . r = 0.65 P-value = 0.0001 . and between GCS and Bs2 there is inverse liner relation r = 0.256 P = 0.02 . Between trauma score (Ts) and Bs2 there is iverse liner relation r 0.815 p-value = 0.001 .But between trauma score (Ts) and Bs2 there is no meaningful relation p-value = 3.
