Abstract
:
To evalute neurological and vascular complications in patients with cervical rib based on the Age and Sex at St. Al- zahra and Kashani general hospitals during 1382- 83. Cervical rib is a common congenital anomaly that originates from the seventh cervical vertebra and rarely from the sixth cervical vertebrae. A significant number of patients with thoracic outlet syndrome have cervical ribs that produce neurological and vascullar symptoms. Neurological symptoms occur in majority of vascullar ribs, if symptomatic, have disabling symptoms and serious undergo symptomatic therapy because of late diagnosis. Patients who are referred to radiology department of the Al- zahra and kashani hospitals for chest x- ray of other cervical films, for any reasons, would be evaluated for cervical ribs. If he/ she had any symptoms or complications, these will be checked in our checklist prepared for this purpose. Doppler sonography or Ncv would be performed, depending on the vascullar of neurological symptoms respectively and hence diagnosing cervical rib as cause of these problems. In this study, there was a statistically significant relationship between sex and neurological complications. But there war not statistically significant relationship between age and neurological complications and also no statistically significant relationship between age and sex and vascullar complications. Pervious studies show that most of the complications of cervical ribs and generally thoracic outlet syndrome occur in female and neurological complications comrise a vast majority of them..
