Abstract
:
Oral and dental health quality has a direct association with overall health .There is a direct relation between oral health and different systems healthiness throughout body. Oral health , not only is affected by other systems healthiness but also can influence them through its health conditions. Oral and dental disease share some risk factors with cardiovascular diseases that can interact with each other creating a bilateral relation between these diseases. Therefore if we can find a clear relation between dental caries and oral diseases with cardiovascular disease we can then predict the potential risk of one based on the present of the other. So our aim was to compare oral hygiene and dental caries prevalence between two groups of aged matched adolescents with and without cardiovascular disease risk factors.2-Methods and Materials:After obtaining positive informed consent from subject's parent, DMFS (decayed, missing, filled, surfaces) as well as PI (plaque index) of subjects in both case and control groups were examined according to WHO criteria. The following data regarding CVD risk factors as well as some oral hygiene habits were blindly collected using questionnaire and interview with subjects: blood LDL (low density lipoprotein), blood HDL (high density lipoprotein), blood TC (total Cholesterol) and blood FBS (fasting, blood, sugar), high SBP (systolic blood pressure) and high DBP (diastolic blood pressure), HCr (hip circumference) and WCr (waist circumference).3-Results:According to T-Test there was a significant difference between means of following variables in high risk comparing with low risk group.DMFS (decayed, missing, filled, surfaces) , PI (plague index), BMI (body mass index) , blood HDL (high density lipoprotein) , blood LDL (low density lipoprotein) , blood TC (total cholesterol), blood TG(triglyceride) , HCr (hip circumference), WCr (waist circumference) (p<0.05)).However according to T-Test there was not a significant difference between the means of blood FBS (fetal blood sugar) , DBP (diastolic blood pressure), SBP (systolic blood pressure) , EL (education level) , NBS/Day (number of brushing sequence per day) and A (age) in high risk comparing with low risk group (p>>0.05)Discussion, Conclusion:Adolescents with high dental caries and poor oral hygiene are at higher risk of cardiovascular diseases. Keywords: Oral health, Oral hygiene ,Cardiovascular disease risk factors ,Dental caries.
