Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular diseases, especially coronary artery disease (CAD), are responsible for the highest mortality rate in Iran. The clinical and prognostic benefits of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for some subgroups of patients with ischernic heart disease are well accepted, and worldwide every year almost 1 million patients undergo coronary revascularization. The development of surgical strategies to achieve total arterial revascularization has led to the search of other arterial conduits, especially the radial artery (RA). Lack of study to investigate common complaints of patients undergone CABG via radial artery, especially in Iran, motivated us to perform a study to evaluate frequency distribution of radial artery resection complications on hand after CABG. Methods and Materials: This study is a descriptive, retrospective study. 130 patients who have undergone CABG by radial artery method are entered in our study. Study population is collected from patients who have been operated Sep2004-Sep2006 (Meter 1383- Mehr1385) in Isfahan Chamran Hospital and Sina Hospital. Data collecting establishes by questionnaire and performed through home interview. Questionnaire includes; age, sex, job, time of surgery, past medical history and questions about complications (hyposteia, hyperesthesia, movement disorder, claudicating and scar on hand(By collecting data, analysis of data performed to asses the results and answering study questions. Results: Our study showed 22.2 of patients (30 of 135) had hand Hypoesthesia, 29.6 (40 of 135) had hand pain. 11.1 (15 of 135) had hand dysfunction and 25.9 (35 of 135) suffered of hand claudication at post operative period. Discussion: Although , incidence of common complaints in our study (22.2 for Hypoesthesia, 29.6 for pain, 11.1 for hand dysfunction and 25.9 for claudication) is in the same range of previous studies (6 to 34 ,(the relation between some common complaints and patient's factors which we found in our study, is not noted in the previous studies ..
