Abstract : Introduction: There is an increase in the prevalence of low BMD and fracture. One study in Iran on women with normal BMD showed that FN T scores are lower than LS unlike other ethnic groups. Since, the morbidity and mortality rates in osteoporotic patients are significantly higher than normal subjects, especially these rates increase much more significantly for hip fractures. Therfore it was important to determine which site would suffer more bone loss. Hence we investiagted osteporotic postemenopusal women. Main Objective: To evaluate and compare of hip and spine bone status for osteoporetic post menopausal women. Methods and Statistical Analysis: This study was a cross sectional type that was performed on 110 Osteoporetic post menopausal women(age: mean 53.58 years, height: mean 155.20 cm, weight: 62kg, BMI: 26kg/m2)in IODC. BMD of FN &LS were measured by DXA. We used T-test to compare BMD in these sites. Data was analysed by SPSS. also the mean of FN BMD was 0.651&LS BMD was 0.756.(P.Value < .001) Our study showed that there is significant difference between T score and BMD among FN and LS. In other hand T score and BMD of FN are significantly lees than LS. Discussion: Our study demonestrated a lower FN T-score than LS T-score unlike other studies.Because fracture treatment is expensive, and rehabilitation not always successful, the preventive measures such as having proper life style(e.g., suitable nutrition & involving with adequate exercise), suitable drug therapies, are especially recommended for the prevention of suffering from osteoporosis and consequent hip fractures in later life. Further research is also required to find if similar results are found for other age groups as well as for male athletes, normal and osteopenic/osteoporotic males.
