Abstract : Nowadays adhesion formation become an important challenge in surgery .the aim of the present was to investigate the possible role of vitamin A and C as agents that improve wound healing and Dexamethasone and Promethasine which are well known agents for the inhibition of inflammatory system on the post surgical adhesion formation. Methods: a total number of 60 rats were included in the study, they underwent midline laparotomy for the purpose of peritoneal injury then and assigned to four groups. Group 1 (AC) receives vitamin A and C; group 2(DP): Dexamethasone and Promethasine; group 3(ACDP): vitamin A and C and Dexamethasone and Promethasine; group 4:sham.the adhesion, inflammation and fibrosis scores and wound integrity were evaluated after two weeks. Results: the least mean adhesion score was observed in DP group. The mean inflammation and fibrosis scores do not differ significantly among study groups. The highest wound integrity was found in ACDP group. Conclusion: In conclusion we deduce that inhibition of inflammatory systems reduces the adhesion formation. Administration of agent which improves wound healing such as vitamin A and C does not reduce adhesion formation, however their combination with corticosteroids reduces their unfavorable effect on wound healing.
