| Abstract

stroke is an important cause of disability in children. pediatric stroke may cause significant permanent cognitive and motor handicap in children. in this study we evaluated long-term outcome of stroke in pediatric patients who have been discharged with definite diagnosis of stroke in tehran mofid childrens hospital and isfahan imam hossein childrens hospital from 2005- 2012. in this study a totla of 53 children with stroke were included. stroke outcome as motor disability, seizure and cognitive dysfunctions were assessed in these patients. after a median follow up of 4 years, 15 patient (24 percnet) had full recovery. 38 patients (71 percent) had some degree of neurological hgndicap conclusion: approximately 70 percent of patients with arterial ischemic stroke in children suffer longterm meurological disabilities including motor deficits, cognitive impairment and late seizures. stroke recurrence is the most important risk factor for srvere adverse neurological outcome in pediatric stroke.
