| Abstract

Objective: to evaluate acupuncture's quantitative effect on immune system as an adjuvant therapy to G-CSF in treating chemotherapy induced neutropeniaMethods: this was a randomized clinical trial. 40 diagnosed colorectal cancer patients were the subjects. Twenty of them received just G-CSF and the other 20 patients received G-CSF along with acupuncture. After 10 weeks we collected blood sample for cell blood count test.Results: Mean age of all enrolled patients was 48 with standard deviation (SD) of 8.87 and 19 of them were female 21 of them were male. Mean± SD of age of patients in control group was 46.50± 9.12 and in experimental group was 49.40± 8.58. Mean SD of WBC count change percent in control and experimental group was 3.45±3.18 and 2.73± 3.14, respectively.Conclusion: we found no significant improvement of WBC count by adding acupuncture to the routine treatment (G-CSF) of chemotherapy induced neutropenia.
