Abstract : Introduction: Some of recent studies have shown that epicardial fat and abdominal fat linked to heart disease. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between Epicardial fat thickness and peripheral fat thickness and coronary stenosis in patients undergoing multi-slice CT angiography referring to Al-Zahra hospital of Isfahan during 2014-2015Methods: In a cross sectional study, 190 patients undergoing multi-slice CT angiography referring to Al-Zahra hospital of Isfahan during 2014-2015 were selected and epicardial fat thickness, peripheral fat thickness and coronary stenosis were measured and the relation between these variables was determined. Results: On multivariable logistic regression analysis for the determinants of coronary stenosis ≥50%, family history (OR:12;P<0.001), smoking (OR:7.5;P=0.001), diabetes mellitus (OR: 6.8, P value: 0.001), and epicardial adipose tissue (OR:7.33, P value<0.001) were significant independent determinants. The study showed a positive correlation between epicardial adipose tissue and subcutaneous fat thickness and CAD.Conclusion: In conclusion, the results of the present study indicate positive correlation between EAT and subcutaneous fat, diabetes mellitus, and BMI. Consequently, measurement of EAT thickness by noninvasive tools such as echocardiography may be a good predictor for amount of body fat. This study also showed that increased EAT correlates not only with increased development of atherosclerotic plaque, but is also associated with the severity of coronary stenosis and may be helpful in predicting severe stenosis in patients with large EAT
