purpose: The present study has been carried out with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of methotrexate along and methotrexate combined with betamethasone in patients with plaque-type psoriasis. Material and methods: In a clinical trial study, 50 patients with inclusion criteria were selected and randomly allocated to two. In the first group, 15 mg MTX was administered for 12 weeks, once in a week and in the second group, the same rate of MTX was administered with 3 mg betamethasone weekly. The treatment period in this group was 12 weeks, and at the end of treatment and 3 and 6 months after treatment, the patients of two groups were studied in terms of responding and relapse. The recovery rate was measured using PASI score. Results: The investigation of recovery at the end of treatment in both groups showed that 8 individuals from methotrexate+ betamethasone group and 5 individuals from methotrexate group have completely recovered (36.4% in contrast to 21.7%). Moreover, from these two groups, 13 and 16 individuals relatively recovered (59.1% compared to 69.6%) and respectively 1 and 2 individuals from the mentioned group did not recovered (4.5% in contrary to 8.7%) and according to Man Whitney test, the recovery status had not meaningful difference in two groups (p= 0.26).Conclusion: Concerning the obtained results from this study, the use of methotrexate has been effective in treatment of plaque psoriasis and leads to disappearance of lesions in patients and the use of oral betamethasone along with methotrexate leads to elongation of remission period in patients
