Background:Inhalant corticosteroids have been used successfully to treat lungs function. In this regard Pulmicort Nebulizer and Pulmicort Turbuhaler are two types of inhalant corticosteroids that are used in treating COPD. So we compared the efficacy of Pulmicort Nebulizer and Pulmicort Turbuhaler in the treatment of patients with acute exacerbation of COPD in order to assess the priority of each of the two treatments.Materials and Methods:In a clinical double blind study 90 patients were recruited and divided randomly into two groups of Pulmicort Nebulizer and Pulmicort Turbuhaler. Also demographic, clinical information of the patients and para-clinical data including arterial blood gases (ABG) and O2SAT were recorded both at the beginning of hospitalization and on the seventh day of treatment. The collected data were analyzed through independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test, chi-squared test and linear regression using SPSS (version 20).Results:Our findings revealed that there was no significant difference in O2SAT and arterial blood gases between the two groups at baseline and after seven days of treatment (P value >0.05). But after seven days of treatment, mean of O2SAT and arterial blood gases had a significant increase in each groups (P value<0.001).Conclusion:According to the results, there was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the method of treatment. It seemed that the both types of methods were same.So it can be said in patients with less acute COPD, Turbuhaler method would be better to avoid prolonged stay in the hospital. Keywords: Nebulizer, Turbuhaler, Pulmicort, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
