Notes : Ischemic heart disease, more than any other disease, leads to mortality and high economical costs in developed countries . A cardiovascular disease, especially atherosclerosis is predicted to become the most important disease in 2020 and dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis. In addition to diffident chemical drugs to modify dyslipidemia, nonpharmacological treatments can significantly reduce morbidity from CHD. As a result of variety of components existing in herbal drugs, they can show many different pharmacological properties and fewer side effects in comparison with chemical drugs. This study aimed to assess the effects of Portulaca oleracea on Some inflammatory factors (hsCRP, TNF-a, ICAM, VCAM-1, IL-6) in obese adolescents. 74 patients met the inclusion criteria and they were selected and randomized into two groups of 37 people (1.control group 2.placebo group) to receive either 1gram of purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) 's seed powder (2 divided doses by 1capsules that each one contain 500 mg purslane's seed powder) or matching placebo. Fasting baseline laboratory values were obtained for all parameters on each subject prior to the start of the study and at the end of 4 weeks. Proinflammatory factors (heat shock C-reactive Protein, Tumor Necrotizing factor-a Intercellular Adhesion Molecule, Vascular Adhesion Molecule -1, Interleukin-6) were measured at the beginning and at the end of the trial. Data were analyzed using General linear method (multivariate) test. In our study a meaningful decrease was observed in the concentration of LDL cholesterol (p=0.004) and TG (p=0.006), and this decrease was more significant for TG concentration. Portulaca oleracea L. didn't have any beneficial effects on HDL (P=0663) and TC(p=0.280). The pro-inflammatory factors [ICAM, VCAM, TNF-alpha, hs-CRP and IL6] had significant changes in the case group. It seems that Portulaca oleracea L. (probably due to its PUFA (Polyunsaturated fatty acids),omega 3, antioxidant, free radical scavenging, and lipid lowering effects) maybe useful against dyslipidemia and some serum Proinflammatory factors profile.
